Browning Davis, the construction joint venture formed by Browning and Davis & Associates to construct Innovation 1 at 16 Tech, received the Mayor’s Diversity Above and Beyond Award from Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett at the Indiana Black Expo Mayor’s Breakfast on July 12.
Browning Davis was recognized for its efforts to involve minority businesses in Innovation 1 construction. The joint venture nearly doubled the desired level of minority participation, with 50 percent of the firms working on Phase One of the building being XBEs – the collective term for Minority Business Enterprises, Women Business Enterprises, Veterans Business Enterprises and/or Disabled-Owner Business Enterprises – compared to a City goal of 27%.
Browning Project Manager David McMath said, “There is no reason to accept a low goal when reaching higher delivers this kind of community impact. This project shows what’s possible when you focus on building relationships rather than simply building buildings.”
“I applaud the important work that Browning Davis is doing to grow diversity in our city’s landscape.” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “By recognizing and partnering with businesses like Browning Davis, we move closer to breaking down barriers, ensuring there are no limits to our city’s economic potential for minority businesses.”
